Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 Review: Worth The Upgrade?

In this article, we will review the new Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 streamer. Eversolo has been launching very good products for a while, their last streamer, the DMP-A10, was on the top of my list of streamers of 2024. The DMP-A6 won multiple awards and gained a lot of popularity when it was released, and the Gen 2 version looks to be following in the footsteps of its predecessor.

Review

The Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 is an updated version of their bestselling streamer, the DMP-A6. It comes in a sleek silver and black finish, it has a brushed aluminum chassis and a RGB dynamic light around the volume knob. There is a small hatch on the bottom that can house an M.2 NVMe SSD for extra storage.

On the front panel, there is a six-inch touchscreen that is extremely smooth and responsive. You can display album art and different styles of view meters on the screen, and change the settings of the streamer. There are several streaming services installed such as Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, Presto Music, Calm Radio, and more. Third-party apps can also play the original sampling rate with the sampling rate audio engine. This completely bypasses the Android SRC restrictions. The streamer is also Roon Ready and has Bluetooth 5.0.

The Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 gets a new linear power supply, which reduces noise levels and provides a cleaner and more stable power source. It gets HDMI ARC and a 12V trigger out so that your devices can connect and automatically power on and off. The Gen 2 has Wake-on LAN, which can be used when it’s connected to your network via Ethernet. This allows you to turn on the Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 from your mobile app, eliminating the need to manually turn it on every time.

If you will use the DAC inside the Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2, then you should know that it keeps the same DAC which includes the two ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M DAC chips.

On the back panel, there are three antennas, two for WiFi and one for Bluetooth. There is a Gigabit Ethernet port, and HDMI out port for DSD audio, USB-A, coaxial input and outputs, and optical inputs and outputs. There is a USB-B port for audio, RCA analog outputs, balanced XLR outputs, a 12V output trigger, and a new HDMI ARC port.

The EVC output engine has a volume adjustment algorithm that eliminates errors at different gain levels so that the signal shape remains unchanged when adjusting volumes. This provides the DAC with better information which increases overall performance. You can also connect a CD player to the Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 and transfer files directly to the streamer, these small things make this streamer so much better than its competition.

The Eversolo app is well-built and easy to navigate, you can change the RGB of the volume dial, select source ports, make libraries, and adjust the parametric EQ. Parametric EQ lets you adjust the sound down to a frequency, and adjust how steep the frequency curve is. You can log into multiple streaming services at once, and make a global library that contains tracks from different services. You can also mirror the streamer’s display on your phone and change the settings remotely.

Should You Upgrade To The Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2?

You might be wondering if you should upgrade to the Gen 2 model. If you own the original A6 and are looking for an increase in just sound performance, you will be better off waiting for a new and better release. If you want better features and ports, then you can upgrade to the A6 Gen 2 or look at the more expensive DMP-A10. If you want all of these features and more, then the DMP-A10 will be a better fit.

Verdict

The Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 is a well-built, beautiful streamer. It has a good app with lots of customization options, and its touchscreen is bright and responsive. Eversolo included automatic room correction in the DMP-A10, and I was sad to see it wasn’t included in this streamer. This streamer is perfect for those who don’t want to break the bank and get good performance. If you are looking for some alternatives, then take a look at the WiiM Ultra or the Bluesound Node Icon
