Radiant Acoustics is a new company in HiFi audio, and they just released their debut speakers, the Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 bookshelf loudspeakers. Radiant Acoustics is a collaboration between three companies: Nordic Hi-Fi, PURIFI, and HiFi Klubben. All of these companies are owned by Peter Lyngdorf, who is a HiFi legend.
This partnership unites PURIFI’s cutting-edge technology, HiFi Klubben’s industry knowledge and infrastructure, and Nordic Hi-Fi’s direct-to-consumer model to create top-tier audio products at a reasonable price, unlike anything you’ve seen before.
As of this review, the Clarity is the only loudspeaker this company makes. With this in mind, I had high hopes going into this review, as if you only have one product, it has to be very good. In this article, we will look at the Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers and discuss the pros and cons, and whether you should buy them.
Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 Review
Design
The Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 is a two-way loudspeaker, and it is incredibly well made. You can get it in three finishes: White, Black, and Walnut. It has a 15 mm CNC-machined aluminum front baffle bonded to a 21 mm MDF. This reduces cabinet vibrations and distortion, and gives the Radiant 6.2 loudspeakers very good build quality.
These loudspeakers feature the PURIFI USHINDI 6 ½ inch woofers, engineered to drastically reduce distortion and elevate bass performance to an unprecedented level by using symmetrical ridges. An AMT tweeter and a custom high-frequency waveguide complement this woofer, along with two 6 ½ inch radiators. All these components give the Radiant Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers a combined frequency response of 35 Hz – 20 kHz and a sensitivity of 85 dB
.
The loudspeakers have a distortion-free high-end crossover to ensure linearity, optimal sensitivity, and an increase in the sweet spot. The 21mm MDF cabinet with horizontal bracing and Basotect® foam reduces distortion and absorbs backward sound.
Setting Up The Radiant Clarity 6.2 Loudspeakers
I paired the Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers with the Audiolab 7000A integrated amplifier, which offers 70 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 110 watts per channel at 4 ohms. I listened to one track before concluding that the Audiolab wasn’t going to give enough power, so I swapped it out with the big guns. I connected the loudspeakers to the HiFi Rose RA280, which produces 250 watts per channel at 8 or 4 ohms, and it had no issues driving the Radiant Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers. If you connect an amplifier to these speakers, make sure it is stable at 4 ohms or below, and that it offers at least 100 watts per channel.
You should also consider getting a subwoofer with the Clarity 6.2s, as it can make the sound go from flat and dull to very deep. I used the SVS PB17 Ultra R|evolution, and this improved the sound greatly.
Radiant Acoustics recommends placing the Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers at least 2 feet away from your walls. They also recommend placing the speakers so that the tweeter is at your seated ear’s height, to get the best sound possible. I tested these placements, and I got the best sound from these measurements.
Sound Quality
The Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers sound great. The soundstage is excellent, the midrange is very clear, and the bass goes very low. Radiant Acoustics named these speakers accurately, as the clarity is the first thing you notice when you play music on these speakers.
The bass was well controlled, but it was two-dimensional, and it lacked weight unless I turned the volume up. The loudspeakers can play loud music without any distortion, but that is only the case if you have a good amplifier.
The midrange performance is similar. The Radiant Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers produced detailed sound, but only at high volumes. At high volumes, it sounded very good, and it was clean and clear. The tweeter made the treble very well detailed, but again, this was only at high volumes (above 60dB).
Price
The Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers retail for US$4498 per pair. However, if you get these speakers, chances are, you’ll get a subwoofer and an amplifier too. This raises the price significantly, but it also impacts overall performance. So if you’re getting these loudspeakers, be prepared to spend extra money on components.
Verdict
The Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers are unique. If you turn up the volume, then these speakers go to another level and give you incredibly detailed, clean sound. The build quality is amazing, and the finishes look great. The drivers are unique and well-designed, and these speakers can fill up your entire room with excellent sound.
The only quirks the Radiant Clarity 6.2 loudspeakers have are the volume issues and the power requirements. If you can move past that, then these speakers will be great for you. If you pair these loudspeakers with a good amplifier (and a subwoofer if you want) and you get the setup just right, the sound will be unlike anything you have ever heard before.
